Xander might want to research how to permanently kill a super villain in a comic universe because super villains tend to escape death even when there are witnesses to the complete destruction of the body and essence of the being. Xander could put on a Joker smile and just question / interrogate Ethan to find out what is going on (taking it with a grain of salt the size of the Jupiter) and gently tell him to seek redemption under Giles direction, all the while memorizing his scent and ki signature. Leaving that aside, maybe Xander could go off an a tangent of whether Willow went to Yaweh's domain due to religious influence, North American or Californian afterlife due to geographic influence, Asian afterlife (due to the tenuous effect of being killed by a being from that pop culture which is derived from those myths), etc. When it comes to heavens if they are written in, they are eventually retconned into being gilded prisons (like the Soul Gem world or the Infinity Room), vaporware by divine/demonic con-artists, or unknowns even to those who should know.
